We welcome you to Kanab, Utah. Western heritage runs wild here in the splendid scenery of the Southern Utah Desert, an otherworldly landscape that has provided the perfect setting for a long line of filmmakers and producers to make their movies. Meet Jeff
Jeff Welker is a native to Utah, having grown up in Salt Lake City and Park City. He has always enjoyed the peace and beauty of Mother Nature.
An Eagle Scout, he began exploring the wilderness of Southern Utah with his Boy Scout troop in the late ‘70s. He now guides in many of the same areas he first visited in his youth.
His love for the outdoors is insatiable – hiking, boating, mountain biking, snow and water skiing, dirt biking, Jeeping, Harley riding, and desert racing. He has called the “Grand Circle” his home since 1994, and resides in a house he purchased in Kanab, Utah.
Jeff worked for the National Park Service until 2005, when he became a marine surveyor and founded a surveying business that keeps him busy to this day. He has worked with the Marlboro Adventure Team on large events, with clients from all around the world. In 2002, he was hired to be 1 of 9 supervisors for the Harley Davidson 100th anniversary “Open Road Tour”, touring countries including Japan, Australia, Spain, Germany, and Canada; along with plenty of travel throughout North America. The Open Road Tour provided a thrilling opportunity for him to explore the culture and history of each country, and he finds that same thrill in guiding tours for people from all over the world.
Jeff’s rich history, stories, great personality, and fun sense of humor make him well-equipped to host adventures into the scenic American West. He’s always smiling and learning from clients.
With over 30 years in the industry, Jeff knows how to ensure a safe and relaxed tour experience. He finds the reward of this job is ending a day knowing that clients have experienced an unforgettable adventure in the beauty of nature and created everlasting memories.
Meet Shawn
Shawn Turner is a Floridian who loved taking friends and family out to enjoy the wild lands.
He served in the military as a helicopter mechanic, and during this time met his incredible wife Christiane. Shawn has traveled the world, with some favorites being Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. He speaks fluent German.
Shawn moved with his family to Utah roughly 20 years ago, and his love for the outdoors followed him here. Kanab proved to be the perfect community for he and Christiane to settle down, raise their two sons, and enjoy life.
He is quite the rock hound and as such, is an amazing source for information on geology. A bit of a thrill seeker: he loves to chase flash floods and video tape them. Shawn also has an affinity for wildlife and is a bird watcher. He’s an avid adventurer in all of the incredible areas our tours cover, with a special place in his heart for Zion National Park.
And it is We who are the lucky ones, to have Shawn here as a member of the team at American West Scenic Adventures. He takes excellent care of our clients so that they can create memories to take with them for a lifetime.
